How Local Girl Scout Councils Support Girl
Scouting
The average cost of our Council to support program
activities is $208 per girl.
Money spent by the council to serve a girl:
- Ensures that each troop/group has qualifie
d and trained leaders, consultants,
organizers and supporters.
- Develops and delivers council-sponsored program
events including resident and day camps. A council subsidizes
all program activities, including more than 50 percent of the
cost of sending a girl to camp.
- Pays for operating costs, such as those for
safety equipment, property maintenance, insurance and utilities.
- Makes possible ongoing distribution of program
materials and newsletters to keep families, leaders, and the
community informed.
- Provides registration processing, membership
recruitment, troop organization, new leader resources, and staff
support for council geographic units to ensure a quality Girl
Scout experience for each girl in a local group/troop.
There are 318 Girl Scout councils in the United
States and 3.6 million girl and adult members.
